Race Course — Triathlon Training Camp, Da Nang, April 2027
Your last big block, on the IRONMAN coast, a month before the race.
About This Camp
April is the best month of the Central Coast year for morning training: dry, around 31°C at the hottest of the day, a sea at 26°C, and fewer than one morning in ten with rain. The camp ends on 9 April, thirty days before IRONMAN Vietnam and the IRONMAN 70.3 Da Nang on Sunday 9 May 2027: late enough to be your last big block, early enough to absorb it before the taper. Come if you are racing in May and want to know the sea, the roads and the heat before race week, or simply for the best week of the year on this coast. There is a 50m pool on site for structured swim sets, and for the rare morning when an offshore swell closes the sea.
Camp Focus
The last full training block before IRONMAN Vietnam and the IRONMAN 70.3 Da Nang on 9 May 2027, on the same coast the races are run on. Ocean swimming at 26°C, long coastal rides, the Hai Van climb, and race-pace work rehearsed in the air you will race in.

What these sessions are
- Arrival
- Land, build the bike, meet the group. Nothing is trained on the first day.
- Evening debrief
- The group sits down with the coaches: the day's data, pacing, fuelling, and what changes tomorrow.
- Open water
- Sea or sheltered-water swimming as a group, with cover on the water.
- Endurance ride
- Steady aerobic riding, at a pace you could hold all day. Most of a camp week is this.
- Easy run
- Running kept genuinely easy, off the bike or on its own.
- Pool swim
- Technique and a structured set, in a pool, where the set can actually be held.
- Climbing block
- Sustained uphill work, on the best climbing road the base has.
- Recovery
- Mobility, an easy swim, or nothing. The session that makes the next hard one possible.
- Bike intervals
- Structured efforts above endurance pace, with the recoveries written in.
- Free
- Nothing scheduled. The afternoon is yours.
- Long ride
- The long day on the bike. Route recced before you arrive, support vehicle following.
- Brick
- Bike then run, back to back. The part of a race you cannot rehearse one discipline at a time.
- Departure
- Bikes packed, transfers out. The camp closes on the Friday it opened on.
Indicative structure, not a contract. Sessions move for the weather, the sea and the group that turns up. There are deliberately no durations, distances or intensities here: those get written for the athletes actually on the camp, once the coaches have seen them train.
The destination
About Da Nang / Hoi An
Best season
April: dry, around 31°C, sea at 26°C
Terrain
Coastal / Climb / Heritage
Da Nang in April is the race-month face of the coast. Dry mornings, a swimmable sea, the Hai Van pass and the rolling coastal roads, an international airport, and UNESCO Hoi An a few kilometres down the beach. Four weeks later, the same coast hosts IRONMAN Vietnam.
Why train here
April is the window on this coast where all three disciplines can still be trained at full value on the same day, before the May heat arrives. It is also where IRONMAN Vietnam and the IRONMAN 70.3 Da Nang are raced, thirty days after the camp ends: the open water, the roads and the air are the race's own.
